Tasmanian Artist Neridah Stockley's Residency Report (I)
Report from Hangzhou. China - Oct 14 to Nov 9th 2025
On October 14, 2024, Neridah, the invited artist for the Chinese Contemporary Art Tasmania Inc.'s (CCAT Inc.)annual artist-in-residence program, successfully arrived at the art residency location in Hangzhou – Jiangdi Art Park – to begin her one-month residency activity. A dedicated vehicle was dispatched to Hangzhou High-Speed Railway Station to welcome her arrival.

Week 1
Tasmanian based Artist Neridah spent the first few days of her residency orientating herself with Hangzhou cultural institutions and the residential host facilities; Jiangdi Art Park. Neridah visited the Zhejiang Art Museum to view the 5th Hangzhou Triennial of Fibre Art,Calligraphy and Paint by Xie Yun and LiangZhu Civilizational Dialogue: China – UAE Calligraphy exhibitions.
Visiting the Xiaohe Village, Qinhefang and the nearby situated Xiangji Temple gave Neridah insight into historic architectural and religious settings.

The Hangzhou Museum showcases the local culture and history of Hangzhou with an expansive collection including archaeological objects, paintings, ceramics and photos which Neridah found most informative.
Neridah travelled to Jingdezhen to attend the opening of the Taoxichan Spring/Autumn Fair and associated exhibitions at the international art centre including the inaugural ceramic prize exhibition ‘Star Atlas and Voyage Routes’ opening and ‘Matter Bound Energy’. Visiting the Imperial Kiln Museum and the historic Taoyichangyang quarters was a highlight. Jingdezhen has produced ceramics for 1700 years with a significant trade in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Neridah was also able to make a studio visit ceramic artist Jackson Li in San Bao and visited the Porcelain Palace.
